Bruised and Broken

 In the garden the serpent beguiled Eve,     beautiful yellow snake

Then Adam ate by his own will.

"Thy head shall Christ bruise," God told Lucifer,

"Once thou hast before bruised His heel."

He was bruised and broken upon yon' Calv'ry's tree.    Last supper

He was bruised and broken, my sinful heart to free.

He was bruised and broken, my heart can shout with glee.

He was bruised and broken; His blood availed for me.

Despised and rejected and sorrowing,     Garden of Gethsemane

Acquainted with grief, not esteemed;

By men, stricken, smitten, afflicted,

And sin laden, wounded for me;

Arrested, denounced, and accused;     Lam of God

He answered them not as a man.

Then stripped, stricken, beaten, and spit upon,

And crucified, He was the Lamb.

The nails were put into HIs hands and feet.     Crucifixion

His name they placed over His head.

The bones broke they not, but the spear was thrust;

Their Savior was already dead.

He was bruised and broken upon yon' Calv'ry's tree.     Christ carrying cross

He was bruised and broken, my sinful heart to free.

He was bruised and broken, my heart can shout with glee.

He was bruised and broken; His blood availed for me.

 Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

1 Corinthians 11:24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
